Read about a new organization that we were introduced to recently. Plenty of volunteer opportunities to consider!

FriendshipWorks is a non-profit organization that matches volunteers with elders and adults with disabilities. Our mission is to decrease social isolation, enhance quality of life and preserve the dignity of frail, isolated elders and disabled adults in Greater Boston.
Our programs include:
- Friendly Visiting: Our Friendly Visiting program matches volunteers with elderly or disabled adults who would like somebody to visit them on an ongoing basis. FriendshipWorks goes to great lengths to ensure that “matches” are favorable for both the volunteer and recipient, taking into consideration personality, geography, and many other criteria. Apply to volunteer and tell us a little about yourself. We’ll introduce you to somebody special!
- Medical Escort: Medical Escort volunteers accompany elders or disabled adults to medical appointments, providing companionship and other personalized support along the way. All that is needed to volunteer is a friendly, caring attitude and some weekday availability. We need volunteers with and without cars. This is a flexible opportunity.
- La Cadena de Amistad: La Cadena de Amistad serves elderly and disabled Spanish-speakers in the Jamaica Plain area. Our volunteers strive to reduce the isolation that many Spanish-speaking elders feel due to old age and frailty. La Cadena de Amistad services include Friendly Visiting, Medical Escort, and One-time Assistance.
- Pet Pals: PetPals are canine and feline volunteers (and their owners) who visit elderly residents of long-term care facilities.
